Farmers cries over irrigation facility
The president for farmers in Ningo in the Greater Region has said that, the irrigation dam built by ministry of food and agriculture has not been commissioned for use since its completion in 2014.
According to him, the irrigation dam built at Baabi was supposed to serve farmers in Ningo but till date authorities have not release the facilities to them.
Mr. Wisdom Amoyaw speaking to Rite FM’s news stated that, they have wrote several letters to the district assembly petitioning them to have the irrigation facility released to the farmers but the assembly has refused to respond to their applications.
He noted that, in two months’ time, the Harmattan season will set in and with the absence of the irrigation dam, farmers in Ningo and its environs are going to suffer possible disaster with their vegetable plants drying up.
In a related development, Rite News spoke to Mr. Stephene Mintah at Ministry of Agriculture and he said MoFA will have to inspect the facility and access its capability before the commissioning will take place and farmers will be allow to use the facilities.
He said the examination of the facilities will take two to three months during which all the necessary information about the it will be gathered.
