Farmers calls 5% fund for Agric Sector

Farmers in Ghana are advocating for 5% of the national budget to be set aside for the Agricuture sector.

According to them,Agriculture in this country needs expansion in terms of capacity building as well as support for the peasant farmers to produce in large quantity.

Speaking on behalf of the farmers on Rite fm’s Agric Forum last Saturday,the Chairman of Lower Manya Krobo Mango Farmers Association Mr.Edward Amanor said the Agriculture Sector needs huge financing to improve its activities with new technology to come up with new ideas to enhaces farming in Ghana .

He mentioned that there are some  farmers who can not produce even on an acre land because there is no fund to support their production but if government have this 5% included in the National Budget  for Agriculture the,farmers can rely on that to increase their food supply hence boosting the economy.

He further stated that countries like Singapore and others have these policies of farmers in their budget which today  has grown their economy but Ghana is lacking behind due to negligence for Agriculture Sector.

In a related development the Youth Organiser of Ghana National Association Farmers and Fishermen Nana Opambour Bonu Boateng  epressed  disappointment in Ghana’s Parliamentarians and the District Assemblies because their activities are not helping the growth of Agriculture in the country.
