FARMERS ADVISED TO PREPARE THEIR LAND ADEQUATELY BEFORE PLOUGHING

The Chief engineer of Adaptive Trail station in the Yilo Krobo municipality has advised farmers to prepare their farmlands adequately before engaging the services of tractor operators. This he said will enhance the smooth and proper ploughing for the minor season.

Mr. Kojo Somuah speaking on “Agrotech” program on Rite FM on Monday explained that the system of ploughing for the major season is quite different from that of the minor season. Unlike the major season which comes with it a lot of the rains, the minor season on the other hand experiences less rainfall and the land must be well-prepared to absorb more water in order to guarantee bountiful harvest.

He said the main objective of ploughing is to ensure proper clearing of the land and if ploughed anyhow will not ensure the smooth farming in the minor season, thereby negatively affecting the outcome of their toil.

He has therefore advised farmers, especially maize farmers to include themselves in the operations of the Agric extension officers when preparing farmland for major seasons in order to get all the necessary education and information.
