By Austing  Ofori

As part of preparations towards the next planting season, farmers across the country have started the preparation of their land for the farming season. This is through ploughing with machinery or the use of man power.

However, caution has come from some sector players who advised farmers to avoid ploughing at this time due to the climate condition in Ghana today.

Speaking to Mr. Samuel Kodjo Somoah, Manager for Adoptive Track Station in Somanya in the Eastern Region, he said ploughing is advisable if only there are conditions such as irrigation to make the grounds conducive for ploughing. He added that if farmers force the tractors to operate at this weather condition, its affect the machines. He lamented

Additionally, he said this helps farmers properly manage machinery activity on their farm. Mr. Somoah also advised farmers to who farm on sandy soil to also take caution when it comes to irrigation in this dry season because the sun evapourate the water when the land is watered for ploughing due to the high filtration rate of that type of soil.
