Farmer jailed for defiling daughter

A Cape Coast Circuit court has sentenced Isaac Okyere, a farmer at Alumako Mando in the Central Region, to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling his 13 year-old daughter.

According to prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Christina Sampong, Okyere lived alone with his daughter at Twelkukrom near Ajumako Mando ever since her mother divorced him ten years ago.

She stated that after confiding in her grandmother who refused to help her, the victim went to the Ajumako Police station on Friday, February 16, 2015 to report that her father had forcibly raped her at their home.

At the station, a medical form was issued and endorsed officially confirming that the girl had been defiled.

Okyere was then arrested and taken into the custody of the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Breman Aslkuma. The investigation that followed his arrest revealed that on the evening of January 24, 2015, Okyere lured his daughter into his room after returning to his farm and sexually abused her.

Okyere pleaded not guilty to the charges but was found guilty by the court of both defilement and incest. He will be serving seven years for defilement and three years in hard labour for incest concurrently.
