President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the university promised in the National Democratic Congress’ 2012 manifesto to be established in the Eastern Region will be situated in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District.
President Mahama added that cabinet has discussed the legislation enforcing the establishment of the university.
He said that legislation will soon be laid before Parliament.
President Mahama revealed this on Saturday, December 20, when he addressed national delegates of the ruling party at its congress in Kumasi.
He reminded delegates of the party’s track record in fulfilling promises on education, citing the establishment of universities in the Brong Ahafo and Volta regions under the presidency of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills as evidence.
Those two universities – University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho and the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani – were promised in the 2008 manifesto of the NDC.
President Mahama also stated that government was on course with the establishment of the 200 community day senior high schools, announcing that 123 will be completed at the end of next year.
