Eastern Region Records Less Accidents In 2014

The Eastern Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service recorded a reduction in accident cases in 2014 as compared with the figures for the previous year.

In the year under review, the MTTD recorded 1, 404 cases as against 1, 706 accidents reported in 2013 showing a reduction of 302 which represented 17.7 percent.

The Department also recorded a reduction in the number of vehicles involved in the accidents from 2,352 in 2013 to 1,823 in 2014 representing 29.01 percent, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yaw Nketiah-Yeboah, the Regional Public Relations Officer, told the GNA at Koforidua.

He said even though persons injured in the reported accident cases dropped from 2,739 in 2013 to 2,256 in 2014, fatalities increased from 259 to 261 deaths in the same period.

ASP Nketiah-Yeboah said the police would work hard to minimize vehicular accidents in the Region and appealed to drivers and pedestrians to observe road regulations.
