Don’t Depend Solely On Dams For Irrigational

By: Austin Ofori Addo

Mr. Albert Swatson, Project Director of the Kpong Irrigational Scheme and also an Irrigational Agronomist has advised farmers not to depend solely on dams constructed by the government for irrigating their farms. This according to him is due to the fact that there are several forms of irrigation that farmers can engage in.

Mr. Swatson who was speaking on Rite FM’s Agrotech on farmers complaints on the persistent climate, however blamed the irrigation authorities for not working to expectations to increase their irrigational scheme.

According to him, with different forms of irrigation which include digging a pond with huge machines to accumulate water which in turn is used for farming, there is also the dugout which is smaller than the pond as well as the dam constructed by the government.

Other irrigation methods he mentioned included farmers irrigating their farms with streams and boreholes and also collecting water into tanks for their back yard farming.
