Develop Agriculture Sector to Provide Jobs For Youth – Nana Obeng

By: Richard Dankwa

Suhum Akyeamehene, Nana Kofi Obeng has agreed that there is the need for government and the traditional authorities to take a critical look at agriculture in the rural communities which according to him could serve as a good step to address rural-urban migration.

Nana Obeng who was speaking to Rite news was saddened that most of the youth in the country loitered about aimlessly due to the absence of jobs. He was hopeful that agriculture was one of the major ways to address the problem as the sector has the capacity to employ the majority of the youth who keep moving into the big cities for non-existed jobs.

Nana Obeng who agreed with the former UN General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Anan on this subject said traditional authorities had a major role to play in supporting the Agric sector. According to him, traditional leaders are supposed to release lands for their youth to embark on massive farming activities.

Though he admitted that most lands belonged to individuals, he was nevertheless convinced that authorities can still intervene to release such lands for the youth for the purposes of agriculture.

According to him, traditional leaders should advise the youth to stay in the rural communities because he believed there are more jobs such as farming opportunities and fishing in the rural communities.

Nana Obeng has therefore advised the youth to take advantage of the several opportunities that abound in the Agric sector since it can serve as a lucrative business, adding that the problem of unemployment has become a major challenge in the country.
