Deal with NAFCO to sell to Free SHS feeding program – Minister to farmers

The Eastern Regional Minister, Honorable Eric Kwakye Daffour has advised farmers across the country to make good use of National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to supply foodstuffs to the Free Senior High School Feeding Program.

The Minster who spoke to Captain Adabugar on Rite Morning Ride disclosed that, Students has been enrolled on the policy, therefore there’s a need for farmers to get in touch with the NAFCO since the company will have to buy from the farmers before distributing to the various schools.

He added that, farming is a business and there is a need for farmers to see it as such.

Hon. Kwakye said, if farmers work closely with this company, it will end post-harvest losses and will also fetch farmers more income to expand their farming business.

He therefore advised farmers to learn from other countries their style of packaging, since it also attracts people to purchase their produce.

He stated that most at times, farmers don’t create market for their produce: they end up allowing the traditional market women to decide prices for their goods which he describe as wrong practice.

He therefore urged authorities to work on the country’s agri-business for farmers to get constant revenue.

National Food Buffer Stock Company has been set up by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to ensure the security of farmers and insulate them against losses resulting from the anticipated increases in production.

The main objective is to ensure the stability of food grain supply and price which is of continuous concern to the government, create employment, ensure emergency food reserve, act as foreign exchange earner, promote consumption of locally grown produce, and boost Agro-Processing factories.
