Darko Farms Company Limited, a reputable poultry rearing and production outfit in the Ashanti Region has held a five-day training workshop for 200 selected poultry farmers in the region.
The workshop was aimed at providing poultry farmers with the requisite knowledge and skills they needed to expand their businesses and companies.
The project which was held at the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region was supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry through its initiative, “one district one factory”.
Providing sponsorship, support and training services in conjunction with Darko farms for the farmers were PUM, a Royal Netherlands Group and the Ghana Poultry Project, a United States Department Agency outfit.
Highlighting the idea behind the workshop to ritefmonline.org, Mr. Augustine Kuudaar, General -Manager of Darko Farms Company Limited said his outfit has the desire to provide adequate knowledge to poultry farmers in the poultry industry.
This, he said is to help empower farmers to develop better skills in poultry rearing to increase the levels of production on the market.
The Company, he noted is determined to transfer its knowledge and know-how it has acquired over the years to farmers to help expand the production chain and create employment for the youth.
According to him, Darko Farms through its technology can slaughter about 20,000 birds a day but pleaded with government to support its effort in giving training to poultry farmers to enable them produce enough birds for the market for local consumption.
Mr. Kwadwo Asante, a former President of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF) commended the facilitators of the workshop.
He noted that poultry farmers needed periodic education and training to apply same to the rearing of their birds.
Such knowledge, he stressed increases the level of awareness of its members to applying modern trends in poultry rearing and production.
He, however, urged government to provide the Association as well as other poultry farmers support to grow their farms to help them increase production all year round.
This, he noted will help the Nation do away with the importation of inferior and substandard poultry and birds from Brazil and other Western Countries.
