CPP ENDORSES DOCTORS’ STRIKE

The Deputy Communications Director of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Mr. Asani Tano has said that the CPP fully supports the ongoing strike by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA). He said that even though life is precious, the doctors have the right to ask for better conditions of service as essential health workers.

Speaking on RITE FM Morning Ride, Mr. Asani Tano explained that every institution in this country must be treated on a fair ground such as fulfilling their conditions of service if necessary.

He revealed that, the doctor’s conditions of service proposal was not a new thing they are requesting from the government but that, this proposal was first put before the government sixteen(16) years ago. He said nothing has been done about their request till date and the president has not helped matters by his stance that, the government will not spend any money which is not captured in the 2015 budget.

He registered his displeasure at government’s decision to bring Cuban doctors into the country noting that will rather worsen the situation in a sense that the money government will spend on these Cuban doctors would be more than what the Ghanaian doctors are demanding. He decried the country’s wasteful culture and cited the GYEEDA scandal among others to make his point, adding all these are done at the expense of adequately resourcing our health personnel and institutions.
