Court Grants Injunction On Akuse-Natriku Assembly Elections

A Koforidua High Court has granted an injunction barring the Electoral Commission (EC) from conducting the assembly elections in the Akuse-Natriku electoral area.

The injunction was granted following an application by Kloma Gbi (a Krobo youth/Advocacy group) and Mr. Asare Sakitey, a concerned citizen of the area who are jointly contesting the placement of the Akuse-Natriku electoral area under the Shia Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region instead of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Notice of the injunction, which was granted by the Court on Monday August 31, 2015 has since been served on the EC. It is however unclear how the EC intends to proceed given the last minute interruption of their plan.

Spokesperson for Kloma Gbi, Gloria Larkuor said “We are excited the court has paused the election process to look into the concerns we have raised; we humbly await its decision”.
