A social commentator and advocacy for made in Ghana goods, Mr. Amankwa Nathaniel who hails in New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region, has hinted that the Chinese are slowly destroying the future of the Ghanaian youth for their own selfish-gains through their continuous operating of Jack pot machines.
These machines according to Mr. Amankwa are the cause of petty stealing and absenteeism among school pupils in Ghana.
“School children who are addicted to the jack pot shun classes and instead steal money from their parents for the game.”
Even though some of the machine owners have acquired business operation permits, Mr. Amankwa appealed to the government to stop their operations.
Ritefmonline.org adds its voice for an extensive search to put an end to the operating of jack pot machines in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal.
Mr. Kwame Asamani, a teacher at Akuse Holy Family Junior High School also revealed the situation is not different among school pupils in the Akuse area.
“Pupils come to school without the needed learning materials but are able go to game centers with three or five Ghana cedis.”
However, teachers and school authorities in the area are making efforts to control the menace.
“We are doing our best to reduce the manner in which pupils give attention to gambling than the learning. During Parents Teachers Association meetings, we ask parents and guardians to take monitoring of children after school seriously since their wards (pupils) spend more hours at home than in the school,” the teacher said.
Somewhere in Somanya, the municipal capital for Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region, the police have seized some jack pot machines belonging to Chinese.
Mean while, even though the Assembly, in 2016 had passed a resolution to arrest and send off all operators within the area the operators still operate in the municipality.
Reports have it that, the Jack pot operations is also dominant in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central and the Eastern regions.
