Construction Works Begin On Ogome Anglican Classroom Block

The Government of Ghana has awarded a contract for construction of  a new infrastructure for the pupils and teachers of the Ogome Anglican Basic Junior High School in the Yilo Krobo Municipal of the Eastern region.

In a sod cutting ceremony on Thursday at the school’s assembly ground, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kpualor said, the project will be completed and handed over to the Assembly on 31st December 2017.

The edifice by completion will include six unit classrooms with electricity connected, auxiliary office accommodation for a head teacher, a staff common room and a library.

According to the MCE who is an Educationist, the project is a Ghana Government project with funding from the European Union. Hon. Ebenezer Kupualor called on the contracting company, Meshiels MN&P Ghana Limited to work in agreement with the needs of the community and the school since they are the first hand beneficiaries.

“Contractor, you have come to put up a project for the school. I want your collaboration with the chief, the Assembly, the Education Directorate and the school… There must be a cordial relationship; when something is going on and they are not happy give them a hearing ear that will make the project succeed,” the MCE cautioned.

He required community members to provide security assistance to enable the smooth running of the project.

The Assemblyman of the area, Mr. Joseph Tetteh was charged to supervise the activities on the project to the chief of Ogome, Nene Aklo Sackie and the Assembly through the Municipal Engineer.

Nene Aklo Sackie who honoured the sod cutting ceremony appealed to all to support the Government, the MCE and the Contractors as they commerce work on the project site.

On his part, Mr. Augustine Adusei also expressed glee at the project, adding that pupils, teachers and community members have every reason to be happy since the importance of a good infrastructure environment cannot be underestimated in education.

The Headmistress of the Ogome Anglican Basic Schools, on her part, pleaded with the MCE to relocate the community refuse container which is placed close to the school and which is triggering an unfavourable and stinking learning environment to the school.

She also called on authorities to bring more classroom projects to cover the school as the KG block of the school is in a poor state.

The contract which was awarded on 21st October is expected to be handed over to the Assembly on the 31st December, 2017. The short duration for the completion of the project has however raised concerns of possible compromise in quality.

Meanwhile, contractor of the project, Miss Faustina Badiako who spoke in an interview with ritefmonline.org in allaying fears of a possible compromise in quality said quality of work would not be affected notwithstanding the short duration of the project.

“Irrespective of the limited duration, quality will not be compromised and our outfit will be able to complete the project since we have worked on contracts larger than the current work,” she assured.

“To tell the truth, this is the least among the contracts we have been doing. We have built schools, assembly halls, dormitories and dining halls,” she replied.

According to Miss Badiako, the amount involved in the construction of the edifice is Ghc 400,000 and has pleaded with the community to avoid high labour charges on their services to see the work come to light.

She reaffirmed that her company, Meshiels MN&P will build six unit classrooms connected with electricity, library, an office for a headteacher, store, a staff common room but not including toilet and urinal.
