Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana (CCAG) is appealing to various political parties and pressure groups to stop attacking the personality of the Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei and deal with the pertinent issue.
Madam Charlotte Osei has come under attack for creating an 18-member Steering Committee whose aim is to oversee the 2016 polls.
The EC’s latest announcement has not gone down well with the opposition New Patriotic Party, who has questioned its relevance and composition of members.
The party had initially indicated their support for Madam Osei when she first assumed her role, where they called on her to “resolve the many challenges she is inheriting from Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, her predecessor”.
However, according to them, the recent decisions made by the EC Chairperson shows that she is still a long way from her much-maligned predecessor.
This conclusion on Charlotte Osei comes at a time when she is yet to conduct her first major election and after only overseeing two by-elections.
President of the association, Bishop Prince Benny Wood said the group is worried about various comments and contributions some section of the public have made in relation to the steering committee.
He indicated that if the Commission or the EC chairperson has erred, it is important to use the right means to deal with the issue and not conjecture matters to make issues worse.
“If you continue attacking the personality instead of the issues, do you expect her to run the elections for you? It’s better to shun the blame game and let’s move on as a nation,” he stated.
Bishop Benny Wood was however disappointed in the Peace Council for making it public that the EC did not consult them before creating the committee.
“Even if the EC made a mistake by not contacting the peace council, they should not have come public to make a statement to contradict the whole issue” he asserted.
