Commodity Prices To Go High

Prices of commodities are likely to see sharp increases soon due largely to the failure of abundant rainfall which did not favour farmers to harvest in appreciable quantities into Ghanaian market.

In an interview with Mr Danso Adjei from Esoko Ghana on the Morning Ride on Tuesday, he said this year’s rains have really failed farmers since they all depended on the rains for their farming activities.

Mr Danso said if the unfortunate trend continues, then they will have no choice but increase the cost of commodities such as maize, tomatoes, pepper, groundnut and others. He said the northern part of the country was experiencing some good level of rainfall but quickly added that this was not enough to serve as a resolute solution to any impending food shortage.

According to him farmers in many parts of the country are also facing this problem of the rain failures which  is contributing to the high cost of food commodities since the demand is very high. He attributed the situation to climate change which has become a burden on farmers.

He latter advised the farmers to adopt irrigational methods of farming in order to enhance some yield.
