Coach Sarpong weeps over Attuquayefio’s death

Coach J.E Sarpong was in tears when he paid tribute to the departed, former Accra Hearts of Coach trainer.“ I have lost a mentor…weeps…I have lost a mentor…and somebody who cared for me and someone who was always telling me what I should do on the coaching field…a great loss of the family and me in particular because he was a unifier…,” he said while weeping.

The Ebusua Dwarfs coach speaking on Asempa FM’s Morning Sports show said he can never forget the passing of the legendary Ghanaian coach whom he described as a mentor.
The former hearts trainer led the team to clinch the African Champions League in 2000.

He then managed the Benin national team to the 2004 African Nations Cup.

He also managed Ghana’s national team and used the Hearts of Oak eleven to represent the Black Stars in a match against Nigeria which ended in a draw.

In the 2008/2009 Ghana League season, Attuquayefio coached Liberty Professionals F.C.
Cecil Jones Attuquayefio was named African coach of the year in 2000 after his club Accra Hearts of Oak of Ghana won the African Champions league with only one loss throughout the entire tournament (to DC Motema Pembe).
For years now, he has been suffering from throat cancer.
