CJA commends Mahama for reducing fuel prices

The Committee for Joint Action (CJA) has praised President John Dramani Mahama for the improvement in the management of the prices of petroleum products.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) a few days ago announced a 10% reduction in fuel prices after coming under intense public backlash following a slump in crude oil prices on the world market.

Many, including the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have argued that the 10% reduction of fuel prices is not enough saying Ghanaians were being made to pay for “government`s failure.”

A leading member of the CJA, Kwesi Pratt explained that there is a clear difference in the pricing formula under the Kufuor Administration than that of President Mahama.

Kwesi Pratt was reacting to calls from the NPP on the need for the NPA to further reduce prices of petroleum products.

He made these assertions on the sidelines of a press conference organised by the CJA in Accra.

He said “When you compare the rates of increase and their performance to petroleum pricing increasing at their time and what is happening now, there is a world of difference. Do not let us be deceived that political propaganda of the NPP on the reduction in petroleum prices.

He added that “What happened under the Kufour’s administration with regards to petroleum price increases was terrible. Under the NPP when there were price reductions on crude oil they told us that they are using the windfall profits to service the TOR debt.”
