A chief’s corpse which has been buried for 9 years in a strong room has been exhumed by two suspected men, Francis Borgye and his brother (name withheld).

On the 25th day of November, the duo were arrested following discovery of their illicit act by some good Samaritans in Avatue Gyigba, a farming community in the Anfoga district of the volta region. However they are in police custody assisting in investigations.

In an interview with Torgbui Tsatsu Agbe V, newly installed chief of Avatue Gyigba, the suspects have been in the palace and knew where the late chief was buried but what engineered them to exhume the corpse is unknown.

According to Torgbui, the strong room has been under the watch of the two suspects who on their arrest told the police that they were chasing a rat, but it found its way through the strong room compelling them to exhume with a pick-axe to get it for their evening meal.

When asked whether it bared any consequences, Torgbui explained that it could lead to death of members of the royal clan and that; an unpredicted mischief could befall inhabitants of the community if proper rites are not performed to pacify the bereaved gods of the land.
