By: Richard Dankwa

The Sanaahene of Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Frimpong Akoma has expressed concern about the neglect of the agricultural sector by successive governments which he asserts contributes to the high unemployment rate in the country.

Nana Akoma who was speaking at a program lunched at Techiman by the Peasant farmers Association of Ghana noted that government has done very little to improve the agric sector and make it attractive. According to him, this does not make the sector look attractive enough in order to push more of the youth into it. This he noted has been the reason why most of the youth prefer white-colored jobs rather than going into farming as compared to the olden days when a lot of the youth readily appreciated farming.

He emphasized that, the agric sector does not look attractive as far as farmers are concerned. Besides, governments have not made any effort to solve or find solutions to these problems.

The Sanaahene further highlighted other challenges confronting farmers including access to credit loans from the banks. He was particularly worried about farmers in the Brong Ahafo region who encounter challenges in terms of seeking loans.
