Call For Ban On Imported Chicken

By Austin Ofori and Catherine Ahiador:

Mr. Joseph Narteh Kofi, Chief Executive Officer for Bongo Farms has strongly and unambiguously advocated for the ban on the importation of frozen chicken into the country.  The call which he made on Rite FM’s Kuapa Yo was against the backdrop that a lot of Ghanaians were now at the risk of contracting alien diseases as a result of the high consumption of frozen or imported chicken.

According to him, Ghanaians are addicted to frozen chicken which is the main contributor to alien sicknesses and diseases in our country. Mr. Narteh compared what pertained in the past where preference for local poultry was high to now where the consumers of chicken have developed the insatiable taste for imported frozen chicken due to its low cost.

“Even at public events such as weddings and engagements, every packaged food served has a foreign imported frozen chicken on it, a practice which is very unhygienic,’ Mr. Narteh observed.

He was emphatic that most of the time; the imported chicken is injected with strange drugs to make them bigger in size which in the end has various serious health implications for its consumers.

Mr. Narteh therefore urged the government of Ghana to ban the importation of chicken.
