Blame MOFA For Ban On Vegetables

The Youth Organizer for the Ghana and fisherman GNAFF has said that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, MOFA should be blamed for the ban of some Ghanaian vegetables on the European Market.

According to him, MOFA’s negligence has led to the rejection of some vegetables from Ghana on the European Market.

Nana Opambour Bonsu Boateng speaking on Rite fm’s Agric Forum last Saturday said it is appalling to see vegetable meant for export being transported in passenger vehicles such as minivans while there are number of cold vans in the custody of MOFA. According to Opambuor, these vehicles have been hijacked by some officials of the ministry resulting in farmers falling on commercial vehicles for the transport of vegetables

He stated that, he has persistently petitioned the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Fiifi Kwetey to release the cold Vans for usage of the farmers but nothing has come out from that petition.

Touching on the issues of the exporters, Nana Opambour explained that authorities handling the exportation of vegetables have no idea about farming and that even selection of vegetables becomes a problem but because ‘they have links and can pay money, they allow them to whatever they like.’

He noted that MOFA would have to come up with strong rules to monitor their operations.
