Blame Food Shortage On Long Term Drought

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Eastern Regional Director of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Fred Gyebi Twum has stated that the shortage of cassava in Ghana can be attributed to many factors, one of which he noted is the long term drought.

Mr. Twum who made the assertions on the Rite Morning Ride on Monday noted that crops and for that matter cassava need water to develop, the lack of which could result in the low yield or worse still, the crop could suffer stunted growth.

According to him, even at the stage of maturity, cassava still stands the risk of suffering the effects of the drought it is hit by the phenomenon

He noted that this year has suffered severe sunshine which has in turn affected lands and the various crops as well.

Mr. Twum ended by questioning what authorities have learnt over time and called for them to be proactive in a bid to solve the challenges.
