Authorities Must Attends to our Needs – Maize Farmers

Maize Farmers in Natriku at Akuse a sub town in the Eastern Region have blown out their agitation and grievance explaining that, there is the need for authorities to attend to their needs.

Madam Patience Doku, a maize farmer in an interview on Ritefm morning show said, the maize farming is going on well with them but they need the authorities in the country to attend to their needs. She lamented that due to the poor rainfall pattern in these minor season has affected their crop produce.

She said apart from the poor rainfall pattern, they are faced with many challenges which includes tractor to plough their farmland to enable them grow their crops. As a result of this, they have turned to man-power as the only means of plaguing their farmland. “This delays our farming activities” she said.

She further added that, marketing strategy is another problem they are facing them since they don’t have a fixed price for their produce hence affecting their profit margin. She said they are also faced with financial challenges as these conditions does not enable them to purchase the necessary equipment and materials needed to improve their farming practices in order to improve yield.

Madam Patience Doku, said they are pleading with authorities to come to their aid in the provision of fertilizer, insecticides and tractors among others to help them enhance and improve upon their farming activities.
