Authorities Killing Cocoa For Rubber

President for the Concerned Farmers Association, Nana Obodie Opambour Bonsu Boateng has said that he is surprised about how the authorities are cutting down cocoa trees at Asikesu in the Eastern Region.

Nana Opambour speaking on Rite FM’s Agric Forum said the authorities have conceded that rubber was far more valuable than the ever popular cocoa cash crop. He said this has compelled the authorities in these areas as well as traditional authorities to cut down their cocoa trees to plant rubber trees instead, in anticipation of better income from harvesting the rubber, adding that the people will soon start taking rubber tea and rubber chocolate.

Nana Opambuor who was peeved about the development of pulling down cocoa plantations for rubber accused authorities of taking monies from those who are into rubber plantation in order to have their way. He further stated that Nana Tano chief of Asikesu did not agree with what is happening in his traditional area and so his hands are clean in all of these.
