Akutunya Market to Be Transformed Into an Ultra-Modern Market Facility – MCE

The Akutunya market in the Central Business District of Somanya in the Eastern region is to be upgraded into a modern market for the community, the MCE for the Yilo Krobo municipal, Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor has said.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Yilo Krobo Municipality has said that the Municipal Assembly is collaborating with the Social Investment Bank to build an ultra-modern market at Akutunya to replace the current market structure.

The completion of the market, he indicated is expected to solve the difficulties faced by the market women in the discharge of their businesses at the current facility.

Honorable Kupualor who made the disclosure when he appeared as guest on the Rite Morning Ride on Thursday said works on the construction of the facility was already underway.

“I have already ordered for 8 trips of gravel which is to mark the beginning of work any moment from now,” the MCE said. “This is in collaboration with the Social Investment Bank and this in the end will fully transform the market.”

The revelations of the MCE was in response to allegations made by market women who ply their trade at the facility of neglect by the assembly towards the refurbishment of the market.

Honorable Kupualor further told show host, Captain Adabugar that the allegations by the market women that the assembly had neglected them were unfounded since plans were far advanced to give the market a facelift.

“It is not true that the Akutunya Market has been neglected by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly. As far as dealing with infrastructural challenges of markets in the municipality are concerned, the Akutunya Market is the first point of consideration on the table,” he averred.

Among others, the assembly chief disclosed that other facilities such as the satellite market at the Somanya roundabout, the Klo Agogo Market and the Nkurakan markets all in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, are going to see massive transformations.
