Municipal Extension officer for the Akuapem North District Assembly, Mr. Samuel Mensah has lauded an initiative of his district which inculcates the spirit of farming into school kids even while they are in school.
Mr. Mensah made this revelation during a two day MAASI project held at the Akuapem North District Assembly on Friday. He said the project which has been running for the past three years is done in collaboration with the district assembly, the Ministry of Education and a Non-Governmental Organization known as 4H.
He said 4H which is very instrumental in the initiative provides inputs such as seeds and garden tools to kids to undertake farming activities aside their usual school activities. According to Samuel Mensah, the laudable project has already roped in about 20 schools in his district
He added that the project targets pupils of upper primary and above and is a voluntary venture which poses no further burden on adults as all needs for the children in this venture is adequately catered for.
