Akateng Fisherfolks To Benefit From Cold Store

Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister, Mrs. Sherry Ayittey has boosted the hopes of fisherfolks in Akateng and its environs in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern region. The minister has during her visit to the area few days ago made the firm promise that the ministry will provide a cold store to the fisher folks so that they can store their fishes to prevent them from going bad.

Madam Ayittey who briefed media men after her tour of some fishing communities in the district explained that it was the aim of the ministry to bring a cold store to the fishing communities along the lake. According to her, this cold store would be powered by solar which can contain about 40 tons of fish, noting, that it wouldn’t solely depend on electricity supply but also, solar powered.

This according to her would ensure that the facility is operational whether there is electricity supply or not. The benefits of this she stressed was that this would enable them store their fishes and have better price for it during critical moments.

Mrs. Ayittey further assured the fisherfolks that everything was in place for the facility to begin operations in September, 2016.
