Ahead of Abrewankor JHS Fund Raising: CEO of FMSL Multimedia to Donate 50 Bags of Cement

Chief Executive Officer of Farm Management Services Limited, operators of Rite 90.1 FM has pledged the contribution of 50 bags of cement to the Abrewankor MA Junior High School as his widow’s mite ahead of a fund raising event to aid the school provide its basic infrastructure for the school.

Mr. Jonie Addo-Fening’s contribution is expected to aid efforts by the school aimed at cladding the ‘poor’ Kindergarten classroom.

The School Authority and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Abrewankor MA Junior High School in the Yilo Krobo Municipal has set Sunday, April 8, 2018 to raise funds to support the basic needs of the school.

The school which has been one of Rite FM’s District Education Observer Project II targeted schools has agreed to raise the funds to enable it acquire some basic needs of the school and also renovate the deteriorating school block, the school toilet and drill a bore hole to serve as a source of safe drinking water for the school community.

Two teachers of the school: Mr. Daniel Opoku and Mrs. Agartha Fosua Osei , secretary and chairperson of the fund raising committee respectively told Dr. Kenneth Oliver on the Rite Morning Ride on Thursday that the Abrewankor Basic School which is 63 years, is in dire need of basic infrastructure and that the support of the  general public is needed to give the necessary face lift to the school.

Pupils of the school eat in an open canteen, ease themselves in a dangerous toilet facility, a poor Kindergarten structure and lack of access to potable drinking water.

Teaching learning material availability was also a concern the school raised during the Rite FM Community Score Card exercise in September 2017.

As part of actions to get the situation resolved, a plan was drawn to raise the funds in support of the school since the government cannot do it all alone.

Mr. Daniel Opoku on behalf of the Fund Raising Committee and the school has appealed to all and sundry including philanthropists, NGOs, churches, business persons, political leaders, chiefs and the entire public to come to the aid of the school in support to the fund raising slated for next month.

STAR-Ghana with financial funding from DANIDA, Ukaid and the European Union is supporting Rite FM in the ongoing District Education Observer Project (DEOP II) which seeks to help improve the academic performance of schools in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

The year long project which started in June, 2017 is at it monitoring stage, ensuring successful implementation and achievement of results from action plans drawn during the school based problem identification stage (the Community Score Card Phase).

These action plans are expected to be implemented across all ten project schools namely; Ogome Anglican JHS, Sra Presby JHS, Obenyemi JHS, Huhunya JHS, Akorley JHS, and Salosi JHS. The rest include New Somanya Methodist JHS, Brukum Agavenya JHS, Aketebuor Salvation Army JHS and the Abrewankor MA Junior High School.
