Agrofood And Plastprintpack West Africa Fair 2015 Begins In Accra

The three day Agrofood and Plastprintpack West Africa exhibition fair scheduled for the Accra International Conference Center has opened on Tuesday. The fair which is the German Trade Show, is an annual exhibition held in December by Fairtrade in collaboration with the delegation of German industry and Commerce. The aim basically is to bring together the industry players such as the agricultural sector, the Food and Beverages sector and the plastics printing and packaging sector to revamp the agricultural sector in the country.

The fair also aims at bringing together key industry players from 14 African countries with forty-five companies connected with Agrofood processing and packaging.

Opening the Fair, Mr. Martin Marz, Chief-Executive-Officer of Fairtrade expressed his delight at the response of the concerned industry players from countries such as Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Morocco, France, Germany, Italy, South-Africa, Thailand, turkey, the Netherlands, etc.

His Excellency, the German ambassador to Ghana, Rudiger John acknowledged the fact that the Ghanaian government has placed the promotion of domestic production and processing of agricultural commodities high on its agenda. He said Germany agrees with this policy of local agro and food processing as a main priority of governance while stressing that nobody should underestimate the importance of a sector that is currently accounting for more than 20% of Gross Domestic Product, GDP and 80% of employment in Ghana.

Other speakers included His Excellency Francois Pujolas, acting ambassador of the French embassy, Mr. Thierry Van Helden in charge of the embassy of the Netherlands and Mr. Patrick Martins of the delegation of German Industry and Commerce, Mr. Thibout Crepou from Adepta, the French Agrofood Association and the German Trade Show.

Several agrofood processing and and packing companies such as Bosch Packaging, Turkey Poultry Promotion group, Cargill, Adepta, Windmoller and Holscher, Tan China, Tropical Food Machinery among several others had stands at the fair.

Several local players in the agro industry took advantage to intereact with exhibitors on either how to package their products and the equipment available or how to improve on their work.

The event continues from Tuesday through Wednesday till Thursday the 3rd of December, 2015.
