Agric Minister Calls On Private Sector To Partner Gov’t In Agriculture

Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, has stated that the agricultural sector is dying off and thereby necessitating his call on the private sector to partner the government in its agricultural productivity.

Alhaji Limuna who made the call during the launch of this years’ Farmers’ Day celebrations in Accra on Friday, noted that the government is turning its focus to agricultural productivity as part of its measures to transform the economy. He therefore called on the private sector to lend a helping hand to the government so as to help the agricultural productivity and agricultural research to improve.

“There is no doubt that increased agricultural production will save the country’s foreign exchange, generate employment and considerably improve food security in the country,’ the minister explained.

He added that government was rehabilitating existing irrigation schemes as well as developing new ones. He called on the private sector to partner government to substantially invest in the agricultural sector. This he noted will provide the needed support for hardworking farmers and fishermen to improve their performance to enable them speed up their growth and the development of the agricultural sector.
