Agric Graduates Should Be On Our Farms

Ahiador Catherine:

Following the worrying development whereby graduates from Extension institutions do not necessarily end up in practical agricultural practices but rather after white collar jobs, Madam Aisha Mohammed who is the Senior Officer in charge of Agric, Trade, and Livelihood has been addressing the issue.

Speaking to Rite FM, on Saturday’s Agric on, she explained that Ghana now boasted of about 60 Extension and Universities who practice Extension related courses. She notes, however that this does not reflect in practical terms as the country does not have enough Extension Officers in the country to help educate our farmers.

Madam Aisha was worried that the government is unable to employ all the graduates from the Extension institutions due to the fact that it is unable to employ them.

She observed that farming was now a dynamic venture which therefore calls for the necessity for farmers to be educated on a regular basis in other to get bumper harvest. She expressed worry that ‘most at times, agric national service personnel are seen at the various banks, signing checks, a situation which is not appropriate; it’s very wrong,’ she lamented.
