Acorn Fun Club Launched In Grand Style

Acorn fun club, a club formed with the noble objective of pursuing vibrant agricultural ventures as well as indulging in charity works and ensuring the health benefits of its people, was on Saturday launched in a grand style at Juapong in the volta region under the theme ‘Empowering The Youth In Agriculture and Healthy Practices In Nation Building.’

With an initial membership of just twenty three, the club has grown to its current strength of over a 100 with members spread across the Volta region and other parts of the country.

The event which drew a spectacular a gathering of dignitaries, sister fun clubs, the media, stakeholders and several well-wishers took place on the school field of the Juapong Methodist basic school.

Saturday’s grand durbar which was the climax of the three day event was preceded with several activities including a clean-up exercise, fun games and donations to some institutions.

As early as 7:30am, members of the club together with sister fun clubs invited to grace the occasion such as Mepe keep fit club, Kpakpe Horme Battor Keep Fit Club, Battor Morklipo Keep Fit Club among others marched through the principal streets of the Juapong township. This according to the organizers was a step towards drawing attention of the public to the day’s activities.

The event which began with a keep fit exercise was interspersed with spectacular moments of colourful drumming and dancing by members of the various clubs.

Explaining the background of the club to the media, board chairman and patron of Acorn Fun club, Mr. Selassie Eric Klu, said he was motivated to set up the club as a result of his interest in youth activities as well as his desire for charity. According to him, activities of the club include tree plantation, clean up exercises, blood donation as well as engaging in works of charity.

He further explained that it was their desire to bring the youth together to instill into them the habit of regular exercises.

Mr. Alistair Djimatey who was the guest speaker on the day entreated the government to create conducive opportunities for the youth especially in the field of agric. According to him, the country was always forced to depend on neighbouring countries for its raw materials, a situation he attributed to the dwindling agricultural opportunities in the country.

Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu who was billed to be present at the event but was absent due to national assignments tasked the youth to explore the several agricultural opportunities available, adding that he was ever present to offer the necessary assistance.

President of Acorn Fun Club, Mr. Wisdom Soklo Edem spelling out the core objectives of the club said exposing members to good character formation, organizing excursions and field trips to places of interest to give exposure to members, engaging in clean up exercises to ensure good sanitation, encouraging and moulding members to assume places of responsibilities as well as seeking the welfare of members formed some of these core objectives.

Executives of the party were also sworn on the day as they took their oaths of office.

Another activity on the day was a presentation of books to some basic schools in Juapong.

Other dignitaries present included a patron of the club and an agriculturalist, Mr. Godfred Alimo, Patron of the club, Mr. Paaku Sena, traditional authorities, Assemblymen and representatives of some political parties.
