  Aburi Girls Senior High School Holds Speech and Prize Giving- Day

Aburi Girls Presbyterian Senior High School has held it 69th Speech and Prize Giving –Day last Saturday at the Joyce Asibey Hall on the school premises at Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders through Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education.

In attendance was Dr. Valerie Ann Yankey-Wayne Dr. Joyce Ayee former C.E.O of Chamber of Mines, Regional Director of Education Mrs. Addison, Dr.Joana Odarkai Neequaye Tetteh who was the Chairperson for the program.

Addressing the gathering, the headmistress of the school Madam Rosemond Bambo said the school has achieved a lot when it comes to academic performance stating that out of the 566 students who sat for 2014 West Africa Certificate Examination, 554 of them had straight pass as a result of effective teaching and learning.

She stated that the school continuously organized an in-service workshop for teachers in the school in order to equip them with the new knowledge in the educational curriculum.

She noted that discipline has always been the bedrock of all activities and “ I am happy to report that generally the majority of the students are well behaved and we hope that they will continue on this path. “She said.

She has also expressed grateful to the 1990 year group for sponsoring this year’s speech and prize giving day and the   refurbishment of the Physics Laboratory.  She therefore appealed to government and philanthropist to come to their aid and replace a generator plant acquired in 1998 with a new one.

Giving the Key note speech at the program, Dr. Valerie Ann Yankey –Wayne a United  Nation (UN) Security Expert and former student of the school encouraged the students to let learning be their companion  because without learning there is no way they can progress to the  universities and other tertiary institutions, adding that they should let the can – do spirit be in them without looking in any circumstance they find themselves in because “I have done it when there is no hope and so you can also do it”. She said.

After all awards were presented to hard working teachers and students.
