The Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body (GRIB) has held a media launch in Accra for its third Ghana Rice Festival. The event which drew together various stakeholders in the rice producing and agriculture sector was geared towards the promotion of quality Ghana rice consumption and its health benefits to consumers.
Various stakeholders including representatives of the Directorate of Crop Services of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, MOFA, executives of the umbrella of the rice value chain, the Ghana Rice Inter-professional body as well as members of the Ghana Rice Advocacy Council Development, partook in the festival.
The well attended event was held under the theme, ‘Eat quality Ghana rice for a healthy life’ with the accompanying slogan, ‘Eat Ghana Rice, It Is Fresh and Tasty.’
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Imoro Amoro, President of the Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body (GRIB), explained that the purpose of the festival was to promote a competitive local rice industry that is creating wealth and jobs for Ghanaians and the need for all Ghanaians to patronize the quality Ghana rice brands on the markets with the advantage of fresh tasty and healthier rice.
According to him, ‘the festival is an open public event that will showcase rice paddy production on the farm, processing of rice, brands of Ghana rice, and various rice dishes prepared by qualified chefs in Ghana.’
The festival will be opened on Friday 7th October by his excellency John Dramani Mahama who is also the leading advocate for the campaign on consumption of the made in Ghana products in the country.
As part of the event, exhibitions were held for various brands of white and brown rice, parboiled rice, mechanization equipment and inputs required for rice production.
Other activities at this year’s festival includes a rice health walk, Ghana rice cooking competition, free Ghana rice sampling by the public, Ghana rice quiz with prizes to be won as well as a float through the principal street of Accra and Tema.
