FDA warns drug peddlers, radio stations against drug advertisement

The Food and Drug Authority is reminding and warning drug peddlers and radio stations against unauthorized drug advertisement on the radio as it is against the public Health Act 851.
Speaking on an interview with Rite FM News, Mr. George Painstil, Director of the Eastern Regional Food and drugs Authority (FDA) explained that, the 2012 Public Health Act, Act 851 which is the legal framework upon which the FDA’s mandate is predicated, regulates both the registration and the advertisement of product (food, drugs cosmetics, tobacco).

The act states that a person shall not advertise food as a preventive or cure for a diseases, disorder or an abnormal physical state.
The act further state that, a person shall not advertise food unless the advertisement has been approved by the authority.
Mr. George Painstil again mentioned that the act prohibits the advertisement on disease such as; Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, Infertility, Fibroid, etc.

Mr. Painstil noted that, Live Presenter Mention(LPM)on radio in any form is not permitted as a form of advertisement for food,drugs,cosmetics household chemicals and medical devices.

The FDA further wishes to recognize all Radio station as a key and important stakeholder’s to conform with the act and require their client to provide letters showing their product registered by FDA.
