2016 Elections Won’t Stop National Farmers’ Day Celebrations

By Austin Ofori Addo:

In the run-up to the November presidential and parliamentary elections, many continue to remain in uncertainty regarding whether the 2016 National Farmers’ Day event will come on or not. In view of this, many, including farmers continue to ask questions in this regard. These include whether the event will be held on the usual date which is the first Friday of December or whether the event will be held earlier or at a later date.

Speaking to the issue with Rite news, Deputy Minister in charge of crops, Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, he stated that since the celebration comes on annually, it should be presumed to come off this year and on the same date as previous until government announces otherwise.

According to the deputy minister, there hasn’t been a single interruption of the event in its thirty-two year history and therefore does not see it being disrupted this year due to the elections, adding that the event had taken place previously even in election years and 2016 is not going to be an exception.

Honourable Alhassan however added that the government will swiftly announce any changes in the event if there arises the need to.
