An 18 year old girl attending one of the Secondary Schools in Techiman has been apprehended by the Techiman police for stealing a 4-day old baby boy at the Techiman Government Hospital over the weekend.
Narrating the incident to Rite FM News, one of the Nurses at the hospital who has pleaded anonymity noted that around 5am on Friday the 18 year old girl in question was spotted sitting at the entrance of the Maternity Ward posing as if she was taken care of a patient at the hospital not knowing she came there at that time to steal.
The Nurse who spoke to Ritenews said that some few hours after the girl sitting at the entrance of the maternity ward, External Auditors of the hospital came in to conduct an audit on high maternal death rate occurring at the hospital
Afterwards, the auditors had a meeting with the management of the hospital, both parties decided to visit the maternity ward, so when the school girl, now in the grips of the police saw the team numbering about 15 entering the ward, she quickly joined them into the ward where she stole a 4-day old baby boy from the first babies court she chanced on in the ward and then went away with the baby
‘The management team even thought that the baby was the imposters own child and there was no doubt about that’, the nurse said
Few minutes after the girl had left with the baby; the real mother of the baby became aware of her missing baby and started announcing which drew the attention of the hospital staff
The girl has been remanded in police custody while investigations are carried out.
